Everything in life requires that hard perserverence, and after the storm, the sun shines with warmth.
Stories on Impact
Njeri’s story is a heartbreaking one. Now living with a foster family, she hopes to one day be able to meet her birth family and be able to know them. She has been living on the streets for almost all her life and it is during her early adolescent years one things took a turn for the worst.
A Turn of Events
When begging for food became an unbearable chore, Njeri was recruited into a gang where she was collecting stolen phones and organizing them once they were brought in. She later became tempted with the flashy phones which were appearing and mysteriously disheartening after a few days and decided to pocket one of them. One of her fellow members spotted her with the new gadget and reported her to the higher ups which resulted in her getting a thorough beating and threatened with being amputated for stealing.
Constant threats continued pouring her way and she became distraught and wondered how she would survive in this hash environment. When she attempted to run away, she was looked for and beaten to an inch of her life. At this point she had decided to commit suicide to end it all. Njeri was rescued by well wishers from a dam where she had attempted to drown herself. She was brought in for counseling by one of the people who were present when she was fished out of the water.
The Healing Process Begins.
At first, she wasn’t receptive as she still feared for her life. With time, the safe environment we provided allowed her to feel and heal. She continues to come to therapy and is now learning different crafts courtesy of her foster family. She plans to enrolling school this coming year, and she is excited to see where this growth journey leads her.
